Founded in 1982, SOLID BRASS is recognized by audiences and critics alike as one of the premier brass groups in the country. The members of the ensemble are some of the New York area’s finest musicians who have performed at Lincoln Center with the Metropolitan Opera and New York City Opera orchestras, NY City Ballet orchestra, numerous Broadway shows, and a host of appearances as orchestral and chamber musicians in the metropolitan area. SOLID BRASS has recorded on the Musical Heritage Society label, Dorian Recordings, Joseph Grado Signature Recordings and Craig Dory Recordings; and has appeared on NJN (PBS) TV’s “The State of the Arts”. Musical arrangements are being published in the SOLID BRASS SERIES of Art of Sound Music (artofsoundmusic.com). SOLID BRASS has been a recipient of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and has performed in Mexico and Canada.

DOUGLAS D. HAISLIP (principal trumpet) is principal trumpet and co-founder of Solid Brass Ensemble. He has performed with the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, Lincoln Center Summer Ballet Orchestras, New Jersey Symphony, and the Colonial Symphony

CHARLES BUMCROT (trumpet) has appeared as soloist and guest artist with the New England Chamber Symphony. He performs with numerous New York orchestras including the Little Orchestra Society and the New York Choral Society. He teaches trumpet at Kean University and Montclair State University.

JASON BITONTI (trumpet) studied at New England Conservatory and Indiana University (Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance); principal trumpet, New Philharmonic of New Jersey and many other performance credits including Solid Brass Ensemble.

MICHAEL BLUTMAN (trumpet) enjoys a diverse career as a New York City freelance trumpeter and music educator. A graduate of The Juilliard School and the University of Maryland, some of his performing/recording credits include: Sting, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Jonathan Batiste Jazz Band, and Broadway’s Phantom of the Opera.

CARL DELLA PERUTI (trombone) is co-founder of Solid Brass Ensemble. He is a graduate of Ithaca College and The Cleveland Institute of Music. He has been awarded a NJ State Arts Council Fellowship in composition. He is a member of the Colonial Symphony. Carl has been trombone instructor at Rutgers University.

BRUCE EIDEM (trombone) is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music. Bruce is principal trombone in Shrek, and was in Gypsy, Crazy for You, and Big. He performed in Christmas Carol annually. Bruce is an expert in both classical and jazz idioms.

HANS MUHLER (trombone) is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music. Hans worked as a brass instrument designer for Yamaha Corporation and has developed his own instrument design and repair business. He frequently appears with many freelance orchestras throughout the metropolitan area.

DON HAYWARD (trombone) is a graduate of the Hartt School of Music and is instructor of trombone at Columbia University. Don frequently plays on Broadway and was a Grammy Award nominee for Mario Bauza’s recording “994 Columbus”.

ADRIENNE OSTRANDER (percussion) is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Music and has performed in several European festivals. Adrienne is the timpanist with the Princeton Symphony and performs with numerous ensembles in New York and New Jersey.

JANET LANTZ (horn) After receiving her Bachelors and Masters degrees at Juilliard, Janet became a member of the Westfield and Colonial Symphonies of New Jersey, the New York Chamber Soloists and has played for over 60 shows on Broadway including Phantom of the Opera.

JONATHAN FOWLER (tuba) Jonathan has received degrees from Rutgers and Temple Universities and the University of Cincinnati College – Conservatory of Music. He is the principal tuba player with the Haddonfield Symphony Orchestra and is currently the Instructor of Low Brass at West Chester University of Pennsylvania.
