Every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on WPNE (FM) 89.3, WPR host Ruthanne Bessman plays listener’s classical requests on Classics by Request.

Listeners can submit their requests online at www.wpr.org/classics-request or call in toll free during the show at 800-442-7106. This is a great chance to get the word out about Brown County Civic Music Association and hear Red Priest perform by requesting something from one of their CDs – perhaps a favorite movement from the Four Seasons from their CD, “Vivaldi The 4 Seasons.” Be sure to mention that Red Priest will be performing in Green Bay at the Ralph Holter Auditorium, West High School, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, November 7.

This is a great chance to get the word out about Brown County Civic Music Association and hear A Far Cry perform by requesting something from their Grammy-nominated CD, “Dreams and Prayers” (Crier Records), which will be on sale at our concert. Some recordings on it are “Heiliger Dankgesang” (the slow movement of Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 15 in A minor, Op. 132), “The Dreams & Prayers of Isaac the Blind” (by Osvaldo Golijov), “Vecd” (by Mehmet Ali Sanlikol), or from their debut CD “Concerto Grosso in g minor,” Op.6 #6 (by Handel), or “Serenade for Strings,” Op.48 (by Tchaikovsky). Be sure to mention that A Far Cry will be performing in Green Bay at the Ralph Holter Auditorium, West High School, Green Bay, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 29.

This is a great chance to get the word out about Brown County Civic Music Association and hear Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra perform something they will perform at our May 9 concert by requesting a movement from Brahms’ Second Symphony (MSO Classics). If you’d rather hear something from Mozart, request an MSO recording of a movement from his 38th or 39th symphonies. Both are on the MSO Classics label. Be sure to mention that Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra will be performing at the Brown County Civic Music Association Concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9, in Ralph Holter Auditorium at West High School, Green Bay.

Although the WPR music library probably doesn’t include any recordings by the Accordion Virtuosi of Russia. It would work to request something on the program such as Glinka’s Overture to Russlan and Ludmilla, the intermezzo from Mascagni’s “Cavalleria rusticana,” Tchaikovsky’s trepak from “Nutcracker,” Bizet’s overture to “Carmen,” or Khachaturian’s “Sabre Dance.”
