The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, under the dynamic leadership of Music Director Edo de Waart, has embarked upon a new era of artistic excellence and critical acclaim. Now in his fifth year with the MSO, Maestro de Waart has led sold-out concerts, elicited rave reviews, and conducted an acclaimed performance at Carnegie Hall on May 11, 2012, in the Spring for Music festival.

Since its inception in 1959, the MSO has become one of the finest orchestras in the nation. The MSO’s 83 full-time professional musicians perform over 130 classics, pops, family, and education concerts each season in venues throughout the state. A cornerstone of Milwaukee’s arts community, the MSO provides enrichment and education activities for audiences of every age, economic status, and background.

2014 Annual Meeting

The 2014 Annual Meeting of the Brown County Civic Music Association will be held on Thursday, June 19 at 7:15 pm in the Family Life Center of the First United Presbyterian Church on the corner of Webster and George Streets in DePere. Refreshments will be available. All Brown County Civic Music Association members are welcome! Significant agenda items include election of Board of Directors, Executive Committee and officers.

It’s tradition! For the seventh consecutive season, we close with the majestic power and superb musicianship of one of America’s preeminent orchestras. From delicate solo passages to bold sweeping crescendos, the 83 full-time professional musicians of the MSO demonstrate anew there’s nothing quite like an evening of live classical music. Maestro Edo de Waart and the MSO are earning strong reviews;  critics and industry professionals raved about last year’s Carnegie Hall festival appearance.

Pre-Concert Talk

Francesco Lecce-ChongA pre-concert talk by Francesco Lecce-Chong will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Lars Thune Center (adjacent to the auditorium lobby) at West High School.  He will discuss the compositions to be played during the concert which will enhance the enjoyment of the concert. The talk will conclude by 7:00 p.m. when the auditorium doors open for seating. All audience members are invited to attend.

Early Membership Prize Drawing Winners

Congratulations to the winners of our early membership renewal prize drawing! This year BCCM again offered early membership incentives. All 2014-15 season membership purchases (new or renewals) received by June 1, 2014 were entered into a drawing for one of four restaurant gift certificates. Thanks so much to these area restaurants for generously donating the prizes.

Art Street & Farmers Market Drawing Winners

A huge thank you goes out to Les Heckman and his volunteers on the Marketing Committee for doing a great job representing the Brown County Civic Music Association again at Art Street and for the first time this year for two Saturdays at the Downtown Green Bay Farmers Market.

Les reports the booth yielded 137 entries in the raffle and 28 additions to our contact list. Art Street attendees were invited to enter a drawing for two tickets to the concert of their choice. The following ten people won: J. Wood, Bob Smith, Karen Walker, Briana Pheiler, Brooks, Pastor Schleis, Howard Hanson, John Lenke, Kathy Doubek, Andrew Betow. At the farmers market, visitors to the table were invited to enter a drawing for season’s tickets; the winners are Katrina Schmitt and Carol Kizior and they each won a pair of season memberships.

If you see any of our winners at a concert this season be sure to say “Hi” and invite them to become members next season!

Classics by Request

Every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on WPNE, 89.3, WPR Host Ruthanne Bessman plays listener’s classical requests on Classics by Request.

Listeners can submit their requests online or call in toll free during the show at 800-442-7106. This is a great chance to get the word out about Brown County Civic Music Association and hear Anthony Kearns sing. Be sure to mention that he will be performing in Green Bay at the Ralph Holter Auditorium, West High School, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, September 27.
