2 Bonus Concerts!

Tradition since Civic Music’s first concert in 1927, the final concert of the series is a free “signing bonus” for new members. This year, with two concerts at the end of the season, both will be free to next season’s new members. By joining before May 11th (credit card on website or by check to the CM office), or by check the night of the concert, new members receive 7 concerts for the price of a 5-concert series!  That includes 2 MSO concerts! Do the math: 2 MSO concerts x $35 = $70. A 5-concert series + 2 bonus concerts = $80. A bargain for your entertainment dollar! For more information, call the Civic Music office at 338-1801 or visit the website: BCcivicmusic.org.

E-Notes—May 2013 Season Finale Times 2!

Two grand finales will close the Civic Music season: the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra on Sat., May 11th and Brass-E5 one week later on Sat., May 18th. Both audience favorites, one is the season finale by tradition and the second is a re-scheduled concert that was cancelled in March. Both concerts begin at 7:30 pm in the Ralph Holter Auditorium at Green Bay West High School.

With the youthful, energetic Francesco Lecce-Chong conducting, the MSO will present an appealing program including the works of Beethoven, Wagner and De Falla.  According to last fall’s membership survey, the symphony orchestra is the favorite performance ensemble. Tickets for this concert are $35 adults, $10 students.

Another survey favorite, the Empire Brass, had to cancel in March, and 4 members of that quintet return with a new name, Brass-E5. They will perform much of the originally scheduled program. Empire Brass tickets will be valid for this concert. For those who discarded their tickets, check in at the table in the lobby and tickets will be given to those on the membership list.  Tickets can be purchased for $25 adults and $10 students.

Winner: 2-night stay at the Waterbury Inn!

waterbury-innWe have a winner in the drawing for a two-night stay at the beautiful Waterbury Inn in Ephraim, Door County. It is Elaine Jacobe of Green Bay. Elaine will enjoy a get-away on the banks of Lake Michigan, courtesy of the Waterbury Inn.

To create incentive to buy season tickets early, Civic Music offered those who purchased their membership by June 1 automatic entry into this drawing. Civic Music extends a big “thank you” to the Board of Directors of the Waterbury Inn for this generous donation.

Warren Gerds, Critic-at-Large

warren-gerdsSince the retirement of Warren Gerds, extended press releases, concert notices and concert reviews of fine arts performances have been noticeably absent from the pages of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. However, we have been informed of some good news;  Warren has accepted a part time position as “Critic-at-Large” at WFRV Channel 5.

You may read his blog at www.wfrv.com by clicking on “Entertainment” and looking for his articles. The first posting was on June 4th and was a review of the Civic Music Brass-E5 concert. Warren will appear on TV on Thursdays during the 6-7 p.m. news and occasionally on Sunday mornings leading into CBS Sunday Morning. We are so pleased to know that the Fine Arts in the Green Bay area will once again get some well-deserved publicity and attention in the media. Thank you, Warren!
